Meet June’s “Send Me on Vacation” Survivor

Sponsored by Dink 4 Pink

For many young women facing breast cancer, life doesn’t pause when treatment begins. Responsibilities continue, deadlines remain, and the emotional toll often grows quietly beneath the surface.

This month, Send Me on Vacation (SMOV) and sponsor Grand Pacific Resorts recognize Makida, a remarkable young woman navigating breast cancer recovery while completing her final year of college.

Throughout treatment, Makida continued balancing classes, assignments, and the demands of finishing her degree while facing the physical and emotional challenges of cancer. It has been a season that required extraordinary resilience, determination, and strength.

“Going through cancer is not only physically exhausting but also emotionally overwhelming,” Makida shared in her application.

While proud of her perseverance, Makida acknowledges the weight that comes with carrying so much at once. Like many survivors, she has learned that healing involves far more than medical treatment alone.

For Makida, the opportunity to attend a Send Me on Vacation Emotional Empowerment Retreat represents a chance to step away from the constant pressures of recovery and reconnect with herself emotionally and spiritually.

“Being surrounded by other women who understand what it means to face breast cancer would create a sense of connection and support that is difficult to find elsewhere,” she wrote.

The retreat offers survivors a safe space to rest, reflect, share experiences, and regain strength among women who understand the unique challenges of breast cancer survivorship. For Makida, it also represents an opportunity to recharge before stepping into the next chapter of life after graduation.

Throughout her journey, Makida says the support of her partner and his family has been invaluable, helping her continue moving forward even during the most difficult moments.

“More than a vacation, this retreat would be a meaningful step in rebuilding my strength, hope, and sense of balance,” she shared.

Send Me on Vacation’s mission is to provide healing vacations and emotional empowerment retreats for underserved women battling breast cancer, helping survivors restore their body, mind, and spirit after treatment.

Dink 4 Pink proudly sponsors this month’s featured survivor as part of its ongoing commitment to compassion, wellness, and giving back to the communities it serves.
