Focus on Well-Being Keeps Wyndham Destinations Employees Active and Happy

Wyndham Destinations Asia Pacific staff - Active Workplace Challenge

As part of its Be Well program, 516 Wyndham Destinations Asia Pacific’s employees have participated in the Active Workplace Challenge across 55 resorts and corporate offices located on the Gold Coast and across Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Indonesia, Fiji, Singapore, Philippines, and China.

The challenge took place from September to the end of November, during which 3,541 active and healthy photos were shared and 170 kilograms of weight loss recorded.

“Employees wellness is a big focus for us,” said Bruce Harkness, Senior Vice President Customer Experience and Human Resources, Wyndham Destinations Asia Pacific. “We see a big correlation between staff well-being and staff retention, along with productivity, creativity, and innovation.

Most people want to find time in their day for exercise, so here at our corporate center we have an onsite free gym, free yoga classes, fortnightly desk massages plus a great selection of healthy food at our onsite café. We offer other benefits too, such as employee wellness programs and subsidized private health cover for our full-time Australian employees. We try to listen to what our employees need and want so they can be happy where they work.”

The Active Workplace Challenge is an eight-week campaign designed to motivate workplaces to get active during the workday to get the recommended 30 minutes of daily physical activity for good health.

During the challenge, participants chose from 40 different 10-minute activity ideas (from holding walking meetings, standing up when talking on the phone to doing a stair challenge) with the aim being to do 3 x 10-minute blocks throughout the workday.

The challenge focused on healthy eating, fitness, financial fitness, mental health, good sleep habits and giving back.

Together teams raised $1,446, which will go towards Wyndham Destination’s Asia Pacific’s partnering charity, The Smith Family.

Be Well is Wyndham Destinations Asia Pacific’s employee health and wellness program that focuses on better health, physical and emotional wellbeing, and financial fitness.
