Wyndham Worldwide Climbs Higher on Newsweek’s 100 Green Companies List

Based on its commitment and focus on providing places to stay that are socially, environmentally and economically responsible, Wyndham Worldwide (NYSE: WYN), was once again named to Newsweek’s 100 Green Companies list. This marks the fifth time the global hospitality company earned a spot on the annual ranking, rising to 80 on this year’s list.

“We operate in a way that aspires to care for people around the world, preserve our planet and provide places to stay that are environmentally responsible,” said Faith Taylor, senior vice president, corporate social responsibility, Wyndham Worldwide. “We take steps every day to minimize the impact our operations can have on the world around us. Our holistic integration of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) into our business is called Traveling Together for a Better World and has been an important driver of our success. It is just one of the many ways we deliver great experiences for our customers and guests.”

Over the past year, Wyndham Worldwide announced that the Company achieved its goal to reduce carbon emissions by 20% six years ahead of schedule – and established a new goal to reduce carbon and water usage by 25% by 2025.

In addition to its carbon emissions achievement, the Company also implemented numerous energy and water efficiency initiatives, renewable energy programs, and waste management improvements across numerous global locations. Some of the achievements include:

  • Retrofit of LED installation of lighting across various corporate offices and resorts;
  • Installation of solar panels to generate renewable energy at select resorts;
  • Retrofit low-flow water fixtures across many global properties; and
  • Implementing a custom-designed eco-software, the Wyndham Green Toolbox, to provide a seamless way to measure water and energy usage.

In addition, Wyndham Worldwide has been named the 2016 Dow Jones Sustainability World hospitality Leader and a Gold Class Distinction for Excellent Sustainability Performance by RobecoSAM; scoring a 98% on the CDP – Climate Change; as well as being named among the 2016 World’s Most Ethical Companies by Ethisphere Magazine, 2016 FORTUNE World’s Most Admired Companies, and DiversityInc’s Top 50 Companies for Diversity.

The Newsweek Green Rankings are one of the world’s most recognized assessments of corporate environmental performance. Based on research from Corporate Knights and HIP (Human Impact + Profit) Investor Inc., the 2016 iteration of the project features eight key performance indicators that are used to assess and measure the environmental performance of the world’s largest publicly traded companies.
