Withum Hospitality group distributes free Disaster Preparedness Guide

Orlando, FL & Princeton, NJ – September 2018: The Hospitality team at accounting and consulting firm Withum is offering a free eBook, “Open For Business, Disaster Preparedness Guide,” an authoritative resource delineating best practices resorts should consider before, during, and after catastrophic events. The guide can be found on Withum’s website, located here: https://www.withum.com/kc/disaster-preparedness-guide.

“Recent incidents such as Puerto Rico’s Hurricane Maria or the rampant wildfires burning in the West are reminders of the risk to human life and property resulting from such catastrophic events,” says Withum Partner Tom Durkee. “While we can’t always predict such phenomena, having a solid plan can often help mitigate the pain, suffering, and cost. Our team prepared this document to serve as a definitive set of instructions for resort operators to use in preparing disaster plans that can help prepare for the worst.”

Partner Lena Combs adds, “Proper disaster planning can help you open for business in a timely manner after a disaster strikes. The guide provides an A‐to‐ Z list of activities to do in advance, such as creating the plan; reviewing your governing documents to make sure you’re in compliance with local, state, and Federal rules and regulations; reviewing budgeting, insurance, technology, and risk assessment measures; and assigning an emergency management team.”

The eBook covers the ‘before, during, and after’ aspects of a potential disaster by providing tips for a business continuity plan and the protection of documents and data security. It also provides references to the roles and contact information for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Small Business Administration’s “Disaster Assistance Improvement Program.”
