Seadust Cancun Family Resort Celebrates the Official Launch of Waste Separation Program

Seadust Cancun Family Resort is proud to announce the launch of its property-wide Waste Separation Program in honor of Earth Day, the world’s largest environmental movement. The program’s goal is to reduce waste production by complying with local sustainability regulations, developing ecological initiatives to recycle and revalue as many materials as possible while maintaining guests’ experiences top-of-mind. The company’s ambitious program also predicts to surpass the 35,000 pounds of waste recycled last year through the beginning stage of the Waste Separation Program.

According to the United Nations Statistics Division, Mexico holds a recycling rate of 3%, compared to 24% in the United States; positioning Mexico 20 years behind the United States in its capacity to recycle waste; a fact that inspired Seadust Cancun to take action and develop the Waste Separation Program. As the first phase of the program, the resort will put an end to the use of disposable containers including cups, plates and bowls. Next, Seadust Cancun will work to eliminate the use of plastic straws by providing them only to guests who specifically request them. Discontinuing the use of plastic straws and disposable containers will not only reduce the consumption of chemicals found in single-use containers but will also help decrease the amount of contamination in the land and natural sanctuary that is Cancun. Finally, the Waste Separation Program encourages hotel staff and guests alike to recycle waste by providing respective bins, as well as educational signage throughout the property educating guests and staff on recycling regulations and tips.  After the official announcement of the Waste Separation Program in celebration of Earth Day, the Cancun resort has planned bigger strategies to strengthen its commitment to the environment. From carrying out tactics to reduce emissions by updating the resort’s equipment which currently operate on Diesel, boosting the use of clean energy throughout the property, implementation of solar panels, and even decrease the resort’s use of water, focusing on training and solutions for leakage control, Seadust Cancun Family Resort has never looked greener.
