ResorTime, a timeshare rental website with several resorts in the Tahoe area, donated $2,500 to the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe on February 13, 2016, after the non-profit won a crowdsourced giving contest. Rather than mailing a check, ResorTime invited its customers to share photos of their pets and selected one lucky family, the Aguilars, to join them in Tahoe to present the donation.
“Thousands of people voted for the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe in our beCause Destination Matters giving contest,” says Renée Wagner, RRP, director of marketing at ResorTime. “Voting is held four times a year for community-nominated non-profit organizations. It’s one of the ways we embody our giving philosophy—’What Matters to You, Matters to Us.’”
The enthusiastic response inspired Wagner to host a follow-up contest in which customers submitted photos and stories of their beloved family pets. The Aguilar family was chosen to join ResorTime for a vacation at Tahoe Beach & Ski Club in South Lake Tahoe, California, after sharing a photo of Oso, their miniature poodle, on the beach in Lake Tahoe. The family of four also presented the $2,500 check to Kara Carstensen, adoption specialist and community spay/neuter program manager at the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe. Local news channel KOLO covered the event. Watch the clip at youtu.be/VK9puJ-Aavs.
“ResorTime and its customers are making an impact by helping us give local pets a second chance,” explains Carstensen. “This donation will provide food, vaccinations, and spay or neuter surgeries for two litters of puppies.” ResorTime aims to raise additional funds from its Vacation for Good promotion running through March 31, 2016. Vacationers who use promo code K76VN will receive 10 percent off their vacation, and ResorTime will donate 10 percent to the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe.
The timeshare rental brand also launched a new beCause Destination Matters contest and invites the public to submit their favorite non-profit organizations for the next round of voting. Visit ResorTime.com/giving to vote and share your story.
