Makai Sunset Hotel from the northwest
Powell & Aucello, Hawaii’s premier hotel real estate advisor, is pleased to announce the sale of Makai Sunset Inn, a 20-room oceanfront boutique hotel located in Lahaina, Maui. Working in partnership with Maui-based real estate broker G. Warren Freeland, Powell & Aucello served as exclusive advisors in this transaction.
Powell & Aucello began representing the seller, a kama‘aina (Hawaii resident) family based in Maui in July. The brokerage firm’s extensive contacts among mainland and local hotel investors allowed them to affect an expeditious sale, closing before year-end. Freeland’s relationships with Maui and extensive local real estate market knowledge provided invaluable support throughout the process.
“Our close relationships with hotel investors actively targeting the Hawaii market allowed us to directly source the buyer and our intimate knowledge of the Hawaii hospitality market allowed us to positively portray the upside for the property,” said Powell & Aucello Principal Kevin Aucello. “We took the time to meet face-to-face with potential buyers and found that it paid off in generating strong interest.”
The buyer, Continental Assets Management, owns two other hotels in Hawaii, the Hilton Garden Inn Wailua Bay on Kauai, and is developing the AC Hotel by Marriott in downtown Honolulu.
Honolulu-based Powell & Aucello is a full-service hotel brokerage and advisory firm serving Hawaii, Micronesia, and the South Pacific. Founded in 2020 by hospitality industry veterans Tim Powell and F. Kevin Aucello, the company combines decades of global hospitality and real estate experience with an in-depth understanding of the Hawaii market. Visit PowellAucello.com for more.
