For over two decades and through a variety of initiatives ranging from golf tournament fundraisers to providing internship opportunities, Grand Pacific Resorts has helped support Christel House, a charitable organization dedicated to helping break the cycle of poverty around the world. With all of the changes that have taken place over the past year, supporters have had to find new approaches to staying connected to the cause.
Just prior to the pandemic, Grand Pacific Resorts co-founder David Brown helped raise enough money to provide every high schooler at Christel House in Mexico City with a laptop. In just 90 days, donors contributed $45,000 to purchase HP Chromebook laptops pre-loaded with educational software for each one of Christel House’s 180 high school students. Little did anyone realize that the timing of this initiative would prove to be impeccable and that within just a few short months, distance learning would become the new norm for students everywhere. However, there was still more to do. The next goal was to cover the cost of WiFi in the students’ homes to facilitate six months of distance learning.
In light of the canceled annual golf tournament, and needing to find alternative ways of staying involved, Associates launched a company-wide walk-a-thon instead. Despite the incredibly limited amount of time in which they had to pivot to this new undertaking, they all banded together to log dozens of miles and collectively raise over $22,000—which was enough to provide students with WiFi.
This April, Christel House is hosting a virtual walk that will continue to benefit students living in impoverished communities worldwide. Grand Pacific Resorts was proud to be the first company to announce its participation in the event. Participating Associates will organize into teams and set fundraising goals while helping raise awareness for the cause. Grand Pacific Resorts is thrilled to continue lending a helping hand to Christel House in any way possible.
Christel House is a non-profit organization that helps transform the lives of children in disadvantaged communities around the world in an effort to break the cycle of poverty. By providing access to educational opportunities, individual families, as well as entire communities, benefit. From hosting annual fundraisers to providing internship opportunities to donating much-needed laptops, we are always looking for ways to continue to help.
