Global Connections Announces Top Traveler Activity for 2017

Global Connections Inc. (GCI), a pioneer in the travel club industry, has announced that “National Parks” has come up the winner of the 2017 Vacation Activities Bracket pairing, voted on by members of Global Discovery Vacations (GDV).

When it came down to the final four activities the most popular pursuits among GDV members were Cruising, Nature Hikes, Beaches and the winning National Parks.  Beaches and National Parks paired up for the final round of vacation activities championship competition — with the latter easily outdistancing its competition.

The Vacation Activities Bracket  is the second in a series of popularity contests run similarly to the annual basketball tournament which takes place in March. Global Bracketology is quickly becoming one of Global Connections most popular contests.  Last year, members voted on vacation destinations with Lake Tahoe coming out on top with first-place recognition.

.

According to Tom Lyons, President and CEO of GCI, “We took 16 activities that our GDV members enjoy on vacation.   Each day members voted for their favorite.  The activities ranged from “Winter Sports” to “Getting Lost and Exploring.”    Over the course of three weeks, the destinations were narrowed down one by one until reaching the final four.”

The “final four” destinations were paired up against each other.  On the west side of the equation, top-seeded “Nature Hikes” handily defeated “Watersports” and then ran over “Museums and Landmarks” to reach the top.  “Wineries/Breweries” were easily taken by finalist “Beaches.”  In the east, “Live Entertainment” prevailed over “Shopping”; “Taking a Tour” easily overtook “Relaxing.”  In the end, it was “Beaches” vs. “National Parks,” with “National Parks” reaching the top billing.

“Our social media engagement program is highly successful.  This year we are proud to say two of our social media contests were Finalists in the American Resort Development Association Awards Program.  These contests are one way we keep our GDV members in a vacation mind-set even when they are not travelling, “explains Lyons.
