Members and guests of exchange provider, DAE, have been donating their spare change on exchange to raise funds for Australian charity, Youngcare.
The worldwide exchange company partnered with Youngcare in 2014 to commence the Spare Change initiative whereby guests staying at DAE exchange resorts around Australia can donate any coins and change at the end of their holiday to the charity.
“In just over a year of collecting spare change, more than $8,000 has been donated to Youngcare – a contribution that has made a difference to some of the 7,000 young Australians with high care needs waking up each day in aged care, and the 700,000 others being cared for at home with very limited support,” said DAE CEO, Francis Taylor.
“That amount is equivalent to 202 hours of emergency respite for a carer, or could purchase two hi-lo beds, one electric chair lift and two pressure relief cushions through Youngcare’s At Home Care Grants program.
“It is an amazing result from the simple act of guests donating their spare change at our participating resorts across Australia.”
Guests at Silver Sands Resort in Mandurah in Western Australia have dug the deepest to support the worthy cause, followed by Mariner Shores Resort on Queensland’s Gold Coast, with guests able to donate their spare change in the envelopes provided at the resorts.
“We are encouraging more of our exchange resorts around Australia to really get behind the Spare Change initiative and help us in assisting more young Australians with high care needs to live young lives. This is an opportunity to make a big difference from the smallest gesture.”
Youngcare supports young people with high care needs living at home or at risk of entering aged care facilities, through accommodation solutions, grants, a support phone line and Australian-first research.
Monies raised can purchase the necessary equipment and fund the infrastructure to ensure young people with high care needs can live life with greater choice, independence and dignity.
