BGV Gives and Friends of the Dillon Ranger District host volunteer days to benefit Breckenridge trails

Friends of the Dillon Ranger District (FDRD) closed out the month of July with some help from Breckenridge Grand Vacations’ (BGV) employees and their families and friends, as well as several other Summit County community members. Each summer, BGV partners with FDRD to maintain the trail systems in and around Breckenridge. This year was the first time that BGV’s new philanthropic program, BGV Gives, was in existence to help coordinate the trail repairs with FDRD. These groups came together for their most recent volunteer efforts on July 30th and 31st, which resulted in notable restorations along the Spruce Creek Trail, located just a few miles south of town.

The Forest Service assessed the trail with FDRD a few weeks prior and determined which areas needed the most attention. Then, on Saturday, July 30th, 16 volunteers comprised of FDRD staff, BGV employees, families, friends and locals donated their time, energy and resources towards a weekend of cleaning trails, transplanting trees and closing trails that were created in sensitive areas. They followed that up with a BGV sponsored cookout on the mountain to celebrate a job well done. Doozie Martin, the FDRD Programs Manager stated, “We were really pleased with the progress that we were able to make. It’s just a great partnership and BGV’s one of our most consistent partners. It’s always a good weekend with BGV.”

On Sunday, July 31st, another group of 20 volunteers continued laboring on the Spruce Creek Trail and were able to complete work on a drainage system. The fruits of their labor were brought to life when some rain allowed them to see that the drainage dips they’d worked so hard on were indeed successful. Doozie went on to say, “We love working with BGV because we always seem to have people who are motivated to be out there enjoying themselves and are glad to be helping out.”

There are a multitude of ways to get involved locally and help preserve the environment. Visit FDRD’s website here and see the calendar with links to signups and more information. All opportunities are open to the public and directly benefit the Summit County community.

About BGV Gives

Founded in 2016, the BGV Gives Program was established to facilitate and further extend Breckenridge Grand Vacation’s philanthropic reach and impact in Summit County and the surrounding area. Inspired by the late BGV Owner/Developer, Rob Millisor, this charitable program honors his example of service to others by supporting local nonprofits and providing the community with resources to help elevate their giving as well. BGV is excited and humbled to continue Rob’s legacy of giving through fundraising, sponsorships, grants, volunteering and in-kind donations on behalf of those in need, with a primary focus on health, human services and education. With guidance from the BGV Gives Program Manager, Deb Edwards, this program is committed to growing BGV’s local contributions and inspiring fellow community members to give more, by providing resources and opportunities to help others in need.
