Commitment to Timeshare Owners
There is an exciting new alliance of two existing and influential organizations that is certain to bring broad benefits to timeshare owners everywhere. The ARDA-Resort Owners’ Coalition (ARDA-ROC) and the Timeshare Board Members Association (TBMA) announced a strategic partnership aimed at enhancing the educational and networking experiences for independent timeshare board associations. This partnership marks a significant advance in bolstering the support and resources available to timeshare owners and board members across the industry.
For over 25 years, ARDA-ROC has been dedicated to safeguarding the rights and well-being of timeshare owners through legislative monitoring and proactive engagement. As the owner advocacy arm of the American Resort Development Association (ARDA), they have continuously advocated for the interests of timeshare owners at the federal, state, and local levels. Since 2011, TBMA has supported board members and resort managers of independent timeshare resorts, providing valuable connections and educational resources by hosting conferences and networking opportunities within the vacation ownership and travel industry communities.
The newly formed partnership between ARDA-ROC and TBMA began with the ARDA-ROC/TBMA 2024 Las Vegas Conference. Held on September 12-13, 2024, at the Westgate Las Vegas, the conference showcased ARDA-ROC’s increased role in planning and sponsorship activities. This collaboration created an even more robust meeting experience, ensuring continuity of sponsorships and benefits for attendees.
Throughout the event, attendees engaged in educational sessions and discussions that addressed critical industry challenges, such as budget and legal issues, insurance challenges, and disaster preparedness. Participants also had direct access to the ARDA-ROC team to discuss legal, business, and regulatory concerns. Networking and information exchange among industry colleagues were key attractions.
The conference opened with a warm welcome from Shep Altshuler, President of TBMA, and Jason Gamel, President and CEO of ARDA, followed by informative sessions on legal issues, disaster readiness, and operational efficiency. Sponsors hosted interactive micro-sessions, introducing innovative tactics and fresh perspectives on communication and modernization. The day concluded on a high note with a performance by David Stanley, brother of Elvis Presley, who captivated the audience with part of his ‘My Brother Elvis’ show, right where Elvis himself once performed!
The final day was filled with engaging sessions covering topics like global trends, fiduciary duties, and risk management strategies. Insightful sponsor-led micro-sessions highlighted innovative approaches to meeting independent resorts’ needs and alternative risk management strategies.
The timeshare industry is poised to benefit from the expertise and commitment of ARDA-ROC TBMA as they lead advocacy and education efforts in 2025. Building on the success of their September 2024 joint conference in Las Vegas, the organization is introducing new programs that address the evolving needs of timeshare owners associations and their stakeholders.
ARDA-ROC TBMA draws on decades of experience. ARDA-ROC focuses on legislative efforts that protect timeshare owners’ interests, while TBMA offers education, networking, and resources for independent resort boards and managers. Together, their combined expertise strengthens the timeshare industry through advocacy and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
In 2025, ARDA-ROC TBMA plans to expand its educational offerings, including interactive sessions on industry trends, risk management, and governance. These programs aim to equip stakeholders with timely information to navigate the complexities of timeshare management. Additionally, the organization will continue its proactive legislative efforts, ensuring the timeshare community’s voice is represented at all government levels.
To promote inclusivity, ARDA-ROC TBMA is working to broaden participation in their programs, focusing on accessibility for participants from smaller resorts and homeowner associations. This inclusive approach ensures best practices are shared across the industry, fostering collaboration and unity.
Recognizing the value of community connections, ARDA-ROC TBMA’s 2025 events will provide opportunities for networking, collaboration, and the exchange of insights. These connections will drive innovation and strengthen the industry’s foundation.
The organization also understands the distinct challenges faced by independent resorts. In response, they are developing specialized guidance to address specific governance and operational needs, empowering resort boards with tools for long-term planning and sustainability.
Consumer education remains a priority for ARDA-ROC TBMA. The organization will continue offering practical information on responsible ownership and legitimate exit strategies, fostering transparency and trust within the industry.
Looking ahead, ARDA-ROC TBMA is preparing new resources to support resort boards with proactive planning. These tools will help boards manage risks and ensure the longevity and success of their properties.
ARDA-ROC TBMA is well-positioned to guide the timeshare community through the challenges and opportunities of 2025. Their comprehensive understanding of the industry and dedication to serving both owners and resorts ensures thoughtful, informed advocacy.
As the new year gets underway, timeshare owners, board members, and industry professionals can look forward to the expanded support and expertise ARDA-ROC TBMA offers. By fostering education, collaboration, and proactive solutions, they are preparing the industry for sustainable growth while honoring its rich history.
To further this mission, ARDA-ROC TBMA invites you to join them at their Spring Meeting. Mark your calendars for May 14-15, 2025, and join us at Foxwoods Resort and Casino in Mashantucket, CT, for an exciting and informative gathering.
