Westgate Resorts Files Lawsuit Against Online Travel Website, Amoma.com

Westgate Resorts, one of the leading resort and vacation ownership companies in the world, has filed a lawsuit today against Amoma.com. The lawsuit alleges that Amoma.com is a pirate online travel website that engages in deceptive advertising and intentionally and purposefully engages in unfair competition by undercutting established best available rates (“BAR”) by offering unapproved wholesale rates to consumers which cannot be honored.

This legal action comes after Westgate Resorts became aware of Amoma.com selling Westgate Resorts rooms without authorization at rates below its approved rate structure and Westgate’s repeated attempts to have Amoma.com immediately cease its business practices.

“We’ve filed this suit to protect not only the interests of our resorts, but of our business partners as well,” said Westgate Resorts Executive Jared Saft.  “This website is a nuisance to the otherwise peaceful ecosystem of online travel purchasing. With hundreds of distribution partners who play by the rules and sell and market our resorts fairly, we intend to ensure we protect their business as well as ours. We will use our considerable financial and legal resources to the benefit of our partners, to see this pirate company taken down. We will vigorously pursue any company or individual that aids, abets or profits from this illegal activity.”

Westgate Resorts operates 28 full service hotels and vacation ownership resorts across the United States and is one of the largest active developers in the country.  The lawsuit was filed in the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida, Orlando Division, Case No. 6:17-cv-1561-ORL-41-GKL.
