Resort Trades Magazine’s 2011 Foxhunt Feature Still Holds a Place of Honor at Sapphire Valley Resort

Fifteen years after Foxhunt at Sapphire Valley appeared on the cover of Resort Trades magazine, the August 2011 issue and its accompanying feature story remain proudly displayed on a resort wall.

The framed presentation was recently spotted during a visit to the North Carolina resort by Dawn Sena, president of Sena Hospitality Design. It includes the original Resort Trades cover and the two-page feature, “Foxhunt at Sapphire Valley: Enjoy the View.”

Sena shared a photograph of the display with the Resort Trades team after meeting with Foxhunt’s manager.

“What a wonderful surprise to see this feature still displayed after all these years,” said Sharon Scott Wilson, publisher of Resort Trades. “A magazine story may begin as a snapshot of a particular moment, but seeing this framed feature at Foxhunt reminds us that meaningful industry coverage can become part of a resort’s history.”

Published in the August 5, 2011, issue of Resort Trades, the article introduced readers to Foxhunt’s natural setting, spacious accommodations and year-round recreational opportunities. Written by Brian Welch, the feature highlighted the resort’s mountain scenery, nearby waterfalls, outdoor recreation and access to the amenities of Sapphire Valley.

The cover’s message—“Foxhunt at Sapphire Valley: Enjoy the View”—continues to reflect the resort’s identity today.

Located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina, Foxhunt offers spacious, tri-level townhomes with private balconies, full kitchens and fireplaces. Guests also have access to activities that include golf, hiking, canoeing, fishing, skiing, snow tubing, tennis and indoor and outdoor swimming.

The rediscovery of the framed article illustrates the lasting relationship between specialized trade publications and the industries they serve. Resort Trades has spent decades documenting resort destinations, industry leaders, operational developments and the people shaping the vacation-ownership community.

“For us, this is more than an old magazine on a wall,” Wilson added. “It represents a story that mattered to the people and property featured in it. Knowing that our work became something Foxhunt chose to preserve and display is incredibly rewarding.”

While the resort and the vacation-ownership industry have continued to evolve since 2011, Foxhunt’s mountain setting and emphasis on memorable family vacations remain central to the guest experience. The property is currently professionally managed by Capital Vacations.

Resort Trades thanks Dawn Sena and the Foxhunt team for bringing this piece of shared history back to its attention.
