Interval International and Aruba Timeshare Association Honor Industry Veterans Raymond Maduro and Jan Van Nes at International Shared Ownership Investment Conference

Miami, FL, October 4, 2018 – Interval International and the Aruba Timeshare Association (ATSA) presented Lifetime Achievement Awards to visionary developer and pioneer Raymond Maduro, and Jan van Nes, a pivotal figure who has helped shape Aruba’s timeshare industry. The ceremony took place at the recent 20th annual International Shared Ownership Investment Conference at the Hyatt Regency Aruba Resort and Casino.

“Aruba’s timeshare industry is a model for other destinations and while many have contributed to its success, two individuals stand out for the significant impact they have made,” said Neil Kolton, Interval’s director of resort sales and service for the Caribbean and the Southeast U.S. “For several decades, Raymond and Jan have charted the course that has led to Aruba becoming widely recognized as a leading Caribbean timeshare destination.”

Maduro’s first shared ownership development, the 133-suite Aruba Beach Club, marked a turning point in Aruba’s tourism history as the island’s debut timeshare property upon its opening in Since then, Aruba has fully embraced the shared ownership model and Maduro has been involved in some of its most successful projects, including the iconic Playa Linda Beach Resort.

Van Nes has a long and distinguished career serving in leadership positions at Aruba Beach Club, Casa del Mar, Playa Linda Beach Resort, and Blue Residences. In addition, he previously served as director of tourism for the Aruba Tourism Authority and executive director of ATSA. 

“The island’s coveted position in timeshare is the result of the hard work and vision of entrepreneurs, such as Raymond and Jan,” said Ursell Arends, president of ATSA. “As we look ahead at new growth opportunities, we are proud to honor the innovators whose achievements paved the way for today’s success.”
