International Hospitality and Tourism Honor Society Welcomes 35 Rosen College Inductees

UCF Rosen College of Hospitality Management’s chapter of Eta Sigma Delta (ESD), an international honor society for hospitality and tourism students, inducted 35 new members during a ceremony on April 17, 2019. The ceremony was held at the college on Universal Blvd.  ESD recognizes outstanding academic achievement, meritorious service and demonstrated professionalism. Rosen College of Hospitality Management’s ESD Chapter subscribes to Eta Sigma Delta’s five points of honors: Service, Leadership, Excellence, Creativity, and Ethics.

Leading the 35 inductees this year is Rosen College ESD chapter president Victoria Lee, and officers Samantha Sorkin, Trevor Lowe, under the direction of faculty adviser and Hospitality Services Department Chair, Kevin Murphy, Ph.D. During the induction ceremony, keynote speaker was Jeff Weinland, Ph.D. spoke about service excellence in leadership.

ESD chapters provide many benefits that impact individual students including a networking system that allows for interaction and the exchange of information. ESD chapters also serve as a means of uniting outstanding students for campus activities, fundraisers and volunteer programs, as well as providing a stimulus for students to strive for academic excellence.

Rosen College of Hospitality Management’s ESD Student Chapter was established in 2003. It is one of most sought-after student organizations on campus. The overarching ESD International was founded in 1978. Today, there are over 90 active Eta Sigma Delta chapters worldwide. To be invited to join Eta Sigma Delta, students must be majoring in Hospitality Management or a related field with a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.
