Grand Futures: Tuition Assistance That Grows Generations

In today’s competitive job market, education benefits are more than a perk—they’re a powerful tool for recruitment, retention, and employee growth. Grand Pacific Resorts (GPR), a Carlsbad-based hospitality company managing 20+ properties, has embraced this approach wholeheartedly with a tuition reimbursement program that supports both associates and their adult children.

“We are totally committed to nurturing the growth and development of our team members,” says Bryan Boyd, GPR’s Director of Learning and Development. “Through tuition assistance, we help associates unlock their full potential—whether they’re strengthening skills for their current roles or preparing for future leadership.”

Since launching the program in 2013, GPR has reimbursed more than $95,000 in tuition, benefitting 115 employees across all departments. The program is open to any associate on day one of employment, with no post-course employment commitment required. Participants can receive up to $1,000 annually for tuition, books, or materials tied to courses ranging from college degrees and certification programs to trade school or personal enrichment classes.

“Our goal is to create a learning culture where associates can thrive professionally and personally,” says Learning & Development Manager Elaine Plasse. “Supporting education shows our commitment to their long-term growth.”

Grand Futures: Supporting the Next Generation

In 2025, Co-President David Brown expanded the program to include a new offering: Grand Futures, which provides $1,000 per calendar year in tuition reimbursement for each adult child of GPR associates. Whether it’s a certification, trade skill, or college degree, Grand Futures is about opening doors for the families of those who dedicate their careers to hospitality.

Since its launch on March 1, 2025, Grand Futures has supported eight students in fields including nursing, accounting, architecture, biology, and painting. Four students have completed their programs, while the rest are currently enrolled.

“As a parent, it’s incredibly meaningful to see our company invest not just in me, but in my child’s future,” shared one associate. That’s exactly what David Brown had in mind when he introduced the program. “If an associate leaves us for a new career opportunity, and our education support played a role in that journey—we consider that a success,” he says. “All education is a pathway to a better future.”
