Breckenridge Grand Vacations Hosts Fundraiser to Help Wounded Veterans

On August 21st, 2016, Breckenridge Grand Vacations (BGV) and its philanthropic program BGV Gives helped run and sponsor The Great Cornholio 2016 to benefit the Wounded Heroes Family Adventures (WHFA). BGV played a vital role in raising funds to support the WHFA in providing injured service members and their families with therapeutic, outdoor retreats through the Wounded Heroes Family Mountain Experience (WHFME) in Breckenridge.

This year’s corn hole tourney drew 65 attendees to Carter Park to cheer on 25 two-person teams as they competed for almost five hours. Local businesses showed support by cumulatively donating over $1,500 in raffle prizes. These generous sponsors included: Blue Lotus Yoga Studio, Breckenridge Brewery, Brooklyn’s Tavern, Burke & Riley’s, C.B. & Potts, Craniology, Downstairs at Eric’s, Joy of Sox, Kingdom Massage, Motherloaded Tavern, Mountain Goat, Mountain Wave, Napper Tandy’s/Salt Creek, Refresh Spa, Relish, Soothe Spa, Sunshine Café, The Crown, The Mountain Goat and Twist. Laser Graphics and Coors Light were substantial contributors to the event as well.

The Second Annual Great Cornholio generated a total of $2,172 from participant and spectator registrations, meal and drink purchases, and raffle ticket sales, which was 100% matched by BGV. As a result, the WHFA received $4,343 towards recovery and respite for injured veterans through the Wounded Heroes Family Mountain Experience program.

The WHFME is hosted by the WHFA and the Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center (BOEC), with aid from BGV employees who volunteer as family hosts. This service provides families with mountain adventures and associated transportation, meals, lodging at BGV’s Grand Timber Lodge, adaptive lessons, recreational assistance and equipment for activities. Additionally, enrichment programs lead by counseling teams support these veterans and their families in coping with their losses and building healthy, fulfilling lives. The program also promotes the treatment of mental health disorders that can arise from serving and being injured, such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

About BGV Gives: Founded in 2016, the BGV Gives Program was established to facilitate and further extend Breckenridge Grand Vacation’s philanthropic reach and impact in Summit County and the surrounding area. Inspired by the late BGV Owner/Developer, Rob Millisor, this charitable program honors his example of service to others by supporting the local nonprofit community. BGV is excited and humbled to continue Rob’s legacy of giving through fundraising, sponsorships, grants, volunteering and in-kind donations on behalf of those in need, with a primary focus on health, human services and education. With guidance from the BGV Gives Program Manager, Deb Edwards, this program is committed to growing BGV’s local contributions and inspiring fellow community members to give more, by providing resources and opportunities to help others in need.
