Grand Pacific Resorts Announces Name Change of North Tahoe Resort

Grand Pacific Resorts, a timeshare resort management company, has announced on behalf of its 2,300 timeshare owners at Red Wolf Lodge at Squaw Valley, the official change of the resort’s name to Red Wolf Lodge at Olympic Valley.

As background, in September 2021, Alterra Mountain Company, owners of the famed Squaw Valley ski resort (site of the 1960 Winter Olympics and located just 7 miles northwest of Lake Tahoe), announced that it was changing the name of the resort from Squaw Valley to Palisades Tahoe. Even though many people refer to this beautiful valley setting as Squaw Valley (and have done so since the 1800s), the valley itself is formally known as Olympic Valley, an unincorporated area within Placer County, California. The “at Squaw Valley” portion of Red Wolf’s name was always a reference to the resort’s ski in-ski-out location at the base of the ski resort.

The decision made to change the name of the ski resort necessitated that Red Wolf undertakes a process to change its name as well (as “at Squaw Valley” simply no longer existed). “Similar to other businesses and entities with the Squaw Valley moniker as part of their name, our Board quickly gravitated to “at Olympic Valley” as we believed our owners and guests, many of who have been staying here since the mid-1980s, would have a high awareness for the Olympic Valley name and location,” said Peter Grant, Board President.
